1800-1997

In the 19th century, there was a K&K parade ground next to or on the site of the current Mozarthof. During this time, until 1935, a building belonging to the Gabler brewery stood there. They used the site to store beer barrels, including in the mountain for better cooling. (Source: Gnigler Chronicle).
From 1935 onwards, the area is mentioned as an industrial area. Leopold Preimesberger built the Preimesberger furniture factory at the foot of the Kapuzinerberg. The company produced industrially manufactured kitchens until the factory was closed in 1988. Research in the historical maps is difficult because the current Mozarthof is on the border between Gnigl and Schallmoos. Historical data and images can usually be found in the history of Gnigl, up to the date when the municipality of Gnigl was integrated into the city of Salzburg.
Companies in the area of influence of the WEB process, which was pending in court in 1996, acquired parts of the site and started the “Mozarthof” consortium. The Objekta – Errichtungs und Verwertungsges mbH, which was spun off from Alpine Bau, was founded to build and exploit the site and still exists today. The Mozarthof project was originally planned as an office building for the Salzburg state government. When the project got into trouble in 1995, the Salzburg state government pulled out and the entire financing was in jeopardy (WEB process). At this point, the GSWB and the state of Salzburg “saved” the project by converting and repurposing the building during the construction phase together with the architectural association WILHELM HOLZBAUER and RUDOLF SCHEICHER.
A shopping center was built on the ground floor and first floor, and subsidized rental and owner-occupied apartments were built on the second floor. However, this was not possible without concessions from Objekta –Errichtungs und Verwertungsges mbH., as the conditions for funding from the state of Salzburg had to be created in the middle of construction. In order to develop the area and the underground car park from the Fürbergstrasse side, part of the current entrance was rented from the Autoglas Struber company.

In mid-1996, the apartments in the Mozarthof were handed over to the future tenants and owners, and life came into the house.
